FORT VALLEY, G.A. --- Despite a valiant effort until the final seconds, the Allen University men's basketball team suffered a one point loss at Fort Valley State Saturday, 62-61.
The Wildcats took an early 6-0 lead through the first three minutes of the game, yet that did not stop the Yellow Jackets from bringing themselves back into the game. Over the next six minutes, Allen outscored Fort Valley State by seven to take a one point lead, 13-12, with 10:07 to play in the first half. To close out the half, Allen took a 27-23 lead into the break. The second half saw Fort Valley State take the lead, 49-47, with 7:27 remaining. Although the Yellow Jackets continued to sink shots down the stretch, including the game's final six points, FVSU held onto their lead until the final buzzer.
Behind a 15-point performance,
Peyton Weathersby led Allen in both scoring and rebounding with nine rebounds.
Baker Beal recorded a season-best 12 points on six-of-seven shooting. Also in double figures was
Jordan Edmond with 11 points, and
Hunter Johnson with 10.
Allen visits Albany State on Monday, February 17 for their next contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside HPER Complex.
