Columbia, SC - The Allen University Men's Basketball team came just seconds away from a statement win Wednesday night, falling 85–84 in a hard-fought overtime battle against Albany State at John Hurst Adams Gymnasium.
The Yellow Jackets controlled the game for most of the night, fueled by the electric season debut of freshman Tavaris Bell, who led all scorers with 22 points, and the return of senior Ashton Henderson, who poured in 18 of his own. Senior big man Jordahn Johnson dominated the interior with a powerful 20-point, 12-rebound double-double, keeping the Rams on their heels.
Allen led by 16 at halftime, but Albany State clawed back late and hit the go-ahead bucket in the closing seconds of overtime to steal the win. Despite the outcome, the Hive saw new life — the team looked hungry, locked in, and ready to turn the corner.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Friday night as they host Spring Hill College in a key SIAC doubleheader.
