SAVANNAH, G.A. --- Allen men's basketball saw their season conclude Thursday in the Quarterfinals round of the SIAC Tournament, falling to Miles, 66-51.
The Yellow Jackets once again found themselves in a defensive battle through the first half as both teams combined for 46 points in the first half, as Miles lead at the break, 28-18. In the second half, Allen trimmed the deficit down to seven points on a three-point play from
Demetri Patterson, who connected on a layup and made a free-throw attempt. Miles responded quickly and extended their lead to 15 points with 15 minutes left to play. Allen spent the remainder of the game drawing closer to the defending SIAC champions, being as close as eight points down with 3:48 to go. However, the Yellow Jackets' rally efforts fell short as Miles advanced in the single-elimination tournament.
Sophomore guard
Mike Best posted a season-best performance Tuesday, scoring 12 points in 11 minutes, just two points shy of tying his career-high. Joining Best in double-figures was senior
Tyriq McAdoo who finished with 10 points and four rebounds in his final game at Allen.
While Allen's season ends with the loss, first-year head coach Shawn Walker saw his team set multiple new program records during the 2023-24 campaign. The Yellow Jackets finish with a (15-15) overall record, including a (10-11) mark in the SIAC. This marks the most single-season overall wins and SIAC victories in Allen's NCAA era (since 2021), and the most wins in an Allen season since 2019-20 (18). Among those 15 victories includes Allen's first win over a ranked team in the NCAA era from the 72-62 win over No. 20 Benedict on February 17. Two days ago, on March 5, the men's basketball team won their first ever SIAC tournament game, defeating Lane College, 57-41.
