COLUMBIA, SC --- In their first meeting this season, Allen men's basketball defeated AME rival Edward Waters Wednesday, 70-58.
In the first half, Allen's defense forced the Tigers to shoot just 21.8% from the floor and go 2-for-12 from the three-point line. At the break, the Yellow Jackets led 32-22. In the second half however, both teams would find offensive success as they each shot over 44% from the field with Allen shooting 50% (13-for-26) over the final 20 minutes.
The second half surge from Edward Waters saw the Tigers cut their double-digit halftime deficit down to a single point, 53-52, with seven minutes to play. Yet, from that point on, Allen closed out the game on a 17-5 run for their 11th win of the season - the most since the 2019-2020 campaign (18).
For a team-leading sixth time this season,
Tyriq McAdoo posted a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds in the effort. Meanwhile, the leading scorer for the Yellow Jackets Wednesday night was
Malik Lacewell as the senior guard tied his Allen career-high with a 20-point performance that included six made three-pointers.
Allen now travels to Jacksonville, FL to face Edward Waters at the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports and Music Complex Saturday, Feb. 3 at 4:00 p.m.
