COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Allen University volleyball team ousted CIAA foe Livingstone College (NC) 3-1 on Wednesday in the Yellow Jackets' home opener.
AU defeated LC 25-17 in the first set on 10 kills hitting .292 before jumping out to a huge lead at 20-12Â in set two to take it 25-17. They again had 11 kills hitting .292 once more. In the third set, Allen got out to a 6-2 lead, but the Blue Bears stormed back to get out to a 19-15 lead before Allen rallied to tie it at 21 apiece. However, LC took 4 of the final 6 points to win 25-23 and push the match to a fourth set.
In the final set, Allen again got out to another 8-point advantage leading 17-9 before LC made a little 11-7 run to get to within four at 20-24 but Allen pushed through for the win 25-20. Allen recorded 13 kills and hit .242 in the final set.Â
Allen out-killed the Bears 45-37 in the match hitting .185 to LC's .032 percentage. Sophomore outside hitter
Maliyah Spencer led the Jackets with 13 kills while hitting .357 along with freshman OHÂ
Tahmiah Lawson also playing well recording 12 kills and hitting .200. Also leading the offense was junior RSH
Sydney Ross who registered 10 kills with 4 blocks and hit .231.
Leading the way defensively was freshman libero
Myra Lopez with 22 digs, 6 assists, and 2 aces while the setting duo of senior
Kayla Chambliss and
Lillian Williams combined for 35 assists,, four aces and five digs. Chambliss had 4 digs and a block. Senior middle blocker
Marlaysia Westbrook had a nice night as well registering 7 total blocks along with 2 kills and 3 solo blocks while sophomore RS
Cadence Leaks had 4 kills and 3 blocks. Senior Natalia Maciejewski recorded 9 digs and 2 aces as well.
Allen improves to 2-1 on the season and will next complete their three-game week with a road matchup at Clinton College on Thursday evening at 6:30 PM.
