AU Softball Wallops Morris Behind No-hitter, 5 Home runs, and 46 Runs

SUMTER, S.C.- The Allen University Softball team ended their season on a bang on a warm Wednesday afternoon in Sumter on the road as they rolled to a dominating doubleheader sweep of nearby foe Morris College by scores of 25-0 in game one and 21-4 in game two.

Sophomore starting pitcher Rachel Rolle also threw a mini no-hitter in game one as she tossed all three innings before  the game was ended due to the NAIA's 15-run rule after 3 frames. Rolle's no-hit shutout included two walks and 5 strikeouts as she picked up her 2nd win of the season.

In game one, Allen recorded 11 hits while taking advantage of 10 Morris errors to score 25 runs including a huge 13-run second inning. AU scored 5 runs in the first inning on an RBI groundout, wild pitch, passed ball and two-run triple by senior SS Chyna Davis.
In the big 13-run 2nd inning, the Yellow Jackets scored their first five runs of the frame on errors and stolen bases before a two-run double from senior 2B Bree Spencer and a two-run single from freshman OF Mattie Riddick made it 14-0. Allen then made it 18-0 on senior 3B DaeShonna Beckham's RBI single, 1B Jasmine Blaxton's RBI triple and Davis' RBI double.

In the 7-run third inning, Riddick continued her stellar late-season play by going 4 for 4 on the day while knocking another RBI single in the third. Senior CF Morgan Moon then hit a powerful two-run triple before AU scored their final three runs on two MC errors and a groundout.

Davis and Riddick recorded multi-hit games while seven different Jackets recorded at least one hit and all nine batters scored a run. Driving in in four runs were Moon and Davis while Riddick and Blaxton drove in three. Beckham and Spencer also had two RBIs while Rolle walked three times and scored 4 runs to join Spencer, Riddick and Blaxton in scoring four runs apiece. Freshman catcher Marcell Hernandez also registered a hit in game one while scoring two runs.
Other highlights of game one included five extra-base hits knocked by Allen and seven stolen bases including three from Beckham.

During game two, Allen got out to another fast start going up 6-0 on three wild pitches and a three-run homer from Davis before AU added three more in the second to lead 9-2 after two innings. Allen then put the game away in the third inning with another huge 12-run inning. The Yellow Jacket ladies totaled 13 hits led by two-hit games from seniors Spencer, Moon, Beckham, and Davis.
Beckham's two-run homer highlighted the second inning for the Jackets. An rBI double from Spencer in the third was followed by back-to-back-to-back home runs from Moon, Blaxton, and Davis. Moon's was a two-run shot, Blaxton's was a three-run dinger and Davis' solo shot was her second of the game. Spencer scored four runs again while Blaxton and Davis each drove in four runs apiece. Riddick recorded another hit as well in a pinch-hit appearance to finish 5 for 5 on the day.

Beckham finished the season hitting .284 with 27 hits and 17 RBIs tying Moon for the team RBI lead.
Beckham also tossed 3 innings allowing 4 runs on 3 hits while walking four and striking out six to finish with 151 strikeouts on the season. Spencer also finished the season leading the team in hits (28), runs (29), average (.295), and walks (17). She also registered 12 extra-base hits on the year.

Allen ends their season with 3 wins while dropping Morris to 0-6. The Yellow Jackets graduate five seniors but are bringing in double-digit recruits and looking to contend in the SIAC next season.
