Beckham's Homer Not Enough in Loss to WSSU

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Allen University softball team fell 11-2 and 9-0 on the road at CIAA foe Winston-Salem St. University on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior pitcher Daeshonna Beckham-Timmons homered in the first inning of game one driving in senior CF Morgan Moon, who had reached via error, to stake the Yellow Jackets to an early 2-0 lead. It was DBT's first homer of the season. Beckham has raised her average by 30 points over the past 7 games as she is now hitting .254 on the season, which ranks 2nd on the team behind 2B Bree Spencer's .270.

However, WSSU would put up 3 runs in the bottom of the first on a double and wild pitch. The Lady Rams would lead by just three runs at 5-2 heading into the fourth.  WSSU, though, would then put up a 6-run inning on a triple, double and homer to put the game out of reach for Allen.

Also recording hits for AU were corner infielders, 1B Jasmine Blaxton and 3B Rachel Rolle. Beckham tossed 4 innings allowing 10 earned runs on 6 hits while walking four and striking out three. She now has 89 strikeouts on the season over 100 innings pitched.

In game two, after a scoreless first inning, the Rams managed just one run in the second on a triple and groundout but then took advantage of 3 walks and a HBP in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead. Allen then had a chance to sore in the 4th inning as senior SS Chyna Davis singled and Rolle walked to put two runners on with only one out but could not push any runs across. WSSU then scored two runs in the 4th on a sac fly and wild pitch to lead 7-0.
Allen then put two runners on base again in the 5th as Mattie Riddick, who had previously singled in the third, was hit by a pitch while Beckham followed with a single. However, a flyout by Blaxton ended the threat. WSSU then ended the game in the 6th winning 9-0.

Beckham threw five innings in game two allowing nine runs but only five hits while walking seven and striking out two. Recording hits in game two were Riddick, Beckham, Davis, and Rolle.

WSSU improves to 6-6 on the year while Allen drops to 1-28 overall. The Jackets will next return home to host conference foe Edward Waters University on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 4 PM Saturday.
