Fair's Big game Leads AU Women Past Albany St.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Allen University women's basketball team rolled to a 73-52 conference win over Albany State University from Adams Gym Saturday Afternoon.

Junior shooting guard Keyshuna Fair led the Jackets with a season-high 22-point game to help the Allen Ladies win their 3rd straight game and improve to 8-8 in the SIAC and 12-9 overall. Fair also added four rebounds and three steals.

Allen got out to a fast start taking a 23-12 lead after the first quarter. ASU (6-15, 4-11 SIAC) then rallied in the second quarter cutting AU's lead down to one at 26-25 before the Lady Yellow jackets went on a 15-3 run to close the half and lead 41-28 at the break.

A low-scoring third quarter then saw each team score just 7 points and combine for only 14 in the quarter as Allen would lead 48-35 heading to the fourth. AU would then increase their lead to 18 points at 53-35 early in the fourth but the Lady Rams could not get within single digits for the rest of the game as AU rolled to the 21-point win.

Joining Fair in double-figure scoring was fellow junior guard Destinee Jamison-Whitfield as she finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals while senior forward Cardrina Nolen scored 14 points on 5 of 9 shooting and a team-high 7 rebounds while also going 2 for 2 from behind-the-arc.

Seniors Jazeem Bethea and Symone Jackson combined for 11 points and 6 rebounds as Bethea added two steals as well while junior guard Kayla Pope and freshman forward Talayah Boxley combined for 10 points and 6 rebounds also. Pope added 2 assists, a block and two steals. The AU women shot 47 percent for the game and 44 percent from three-point range while holding ASU to just 27 percent shooting and only 17 percent from deep.

The Ladies will return to action on Monday as they continue their home-stand when they host Fort Valley State at 5:30 pm.
