ATLANTA, Ga. - The Allen University men's basketball were dealt a heartbreaking 61-58 loss on Monday evening in their regular season finale as a Morehouse College three-pointer at the buzzer defeated the Yellow Jackets.
Allen got out to an early 4-point lead against the Tigers in the first half going up 19-15 on a
Reggie Reynolds three with 10 minutes to play. AU would then extend their lead to six points at 26-20 on a Cam Sembly dunk with just under 5 minutes to go. However, MHC would go on a 10-5 run to get to within one point of the Yellow Jackets at the break.
The Maroon Tigers would then go on a big 22-10 run to start the second half and finish the third quarter up 52-41 on Allen, their biggest lead of the game.
Allen, though, would not be denied going on a prolonged 7-minute 17-6 run to tie the game at 58 apiece with 30 seconds to play. The AU run included consecutive three-pointers from
Mike Best, juniorÂ
Tyriq McAdoo, and Reynolds before a dunk from
AJ Baker tied the game at 58.Â
Unfortunately, MHC's Iben Williams then ended the game on his buzzer-beating three-pointer.
Allen was led by 16 points from senior point guard
AJ Baker  as he shot 7 of 12 from the field with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and two three-pointers. Senior wing
Cameron Sembly also had a nice game finishing with 10 points, a team-best 8 rebounds, 2 assists and a block.
Senior forward
Reggie Reynolds finished in double-figure scoring as well notching 11 points on 4 of 7 shooting with 4 boards, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Fellow forward, freshman
Nakia Johnson also recorded 6 points and 5 rebounds with 2 blocks in the loss.
Guards
Chase Cook and freshman
Mike Best combined for 9 points, 7 assists and 4 steals as well with Cook leading the team with 6 helpers.
Morehouse improves to 14-7 in the SIAC and 17-9 overall while Allen finishes the regular season 4-17 in the SIAC and 4-22 overall.
Allen, the East's 8th seed, will next head to the 2023 SIAC Tournament in Savannah, GA on Saturday where they will take on West 5th seed Kentucky State at 5 PM in the first round. Morehouse will get a bye into the tournament quarterfinals.Â
