SAVANNAH,
Ga. - The Allen University men's basketball team fell 75-54 on the road at conference leader Savannah St. University on Monday evening.
Savannah St., the top team in the SIAC East, led 33-21 at the halftime break as the Tigers got out to an early 12-2 lead. AU would rally to get it within 14-9 but SSU was too much in the half the rest of the way. In the second half, SSU outscored AU 42-33 as they ran their lead out to 30 points wiht 9 minutes to play in the game. Allen would finish the game on a 18-9 run but it would be too late on this night.
Senior wing
Cameron Sembly led the Yellow Jackets with 17 points and 6 rebounds off the bench on 6 of 13 shooting. He also led the team in minutes played at 35 while also blocking a shot. Sophomore guard
Chase Cook also scored 14 points with 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. They were the only two Jackets to finish in double-figure scoring on the night.Â
Allen shot just 31Â percent overall and only 23.8 percent from three-point range with Cook leading the team in threes with two. Sophomore guard
Shawn Jones Jr. also had a solid game scoring 8 points with 2 rebounds and 2 steals off the bench while junior forward
Mohamed Alkadi also added 5 rebounds and 3 points with fellow forward
Jaylen Green also scoring 3 points and blocking a shot. Senior guard
Darius Williams led with 3 assists as well.
The Jackets fall to 2-16 overall and 2-11 in the SIAC while SSU improves to 12-5 overall and 10-3 and in first place in the SIAC East.Â
Allen will next remain on the road to battle Edward Waters University in Jacksonville, FL on Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm.
