COLUMBIA,
S.C. - The Allen University men's basketball team made a great rally in the first half as they went toe-to-toe with the bigger Kentucky State foe. However, a 20-2 run by KSU in the second half proved to be too much for the Yellow Jackets as KSU went on to win 82-60 on Saturday afternoon from Adams Gym.
KSU got out to a fast start leading 24-11 just 9 minutes into the game. Allen then found themselves down 33-20 with 6:15 remaining but would then go on a big 17-7 run to close the half on a big three-pointer at the horn by freshman guard
Peyton Weathersby as AU trailed by just three at 40-37 at the intermission.
Unfortunately, KSU's big 20-2 run to start the second half put the game out of reach for the Yellow Jackets as KSU wold lead 60-39 with 12 minutes to play. Allen would get to within 14 points, but no closer as they fell shooting just 29 percent for the game and only 14 percent from three while KSU shot 42 percent from the floor and 38 percent from three.
Allen was led by senior wing
Cameron Sembly's 20 points and 8 rebounds while he also led the team in assists with three and steals with two. Junior wing
Tyriq McAdoo also added 9 points and 6 rebounds off the bench while forwards
Darius Williams and
Mohamed Alkadi combined for 14 points and 11 rebounds.
KSU improves to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the SIAC while Allen falls to 0-6 and 0-3 in conference. Allen will remain home to host Central State, Ohio on Monday at 7:30 pm.
