Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Allen Men Play Well in loss at D-1 Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. - The Allen University men's basketball team put up a great effort in falling 90-70 on the road at Div. I foe Presbyterian College on Monday evening.

Guards Anthony Baker Jr. and freshman Mike Best each scored 14 points apiece to lead the Yellow Jackets. Best's 14 were a season-high while Baker Jr. also added 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and a team-high 3 assists.

In the first half, Allen scored the game's first four points and would lead by three points a few times early in the game, including 7-4 and then 11-10 before PC went on a run to take a 6-point lead. Allen, however would climb to within one point at 19-18 finishing off a 7-2 run with a fast-break layup from Best. PC (4-9), though, would finish the half on a 16-2 run to take a 35-21 halftime advantage.

During the SECOND half Allen scored 11 of the first 15 points of the period to trim PC's lead down to seven with their 11-4 run to trail 39-32 at the 16:21 mark on freshman forward Nakia Johnson's free throws. Johnson would go on to finish with 9 points and 4 rebounds and a team-best 3 steals.
AU then scored with 14 minutes on the clock cutting Presbyterian's lead down to nine points, but that would, unfortunately, be as close as the Yellow Jackets would get to the Blue Hose for the remainder of the game. The teams combined for 104 points in the second half with PC only outscoring the Jackets 55-49.

Allen shot 40 percent overall for the game but only 25 percent from three while PC shot 52 percent from the floor. Senior guard Darius Williams also posted double-digit points scoring 10 while junior forward Mohamed Alkadi registered 9 points with 6 rebounds and a block. Guards Tyriq McAdoo and Peyton Weathersby each finished with 7 points apiece as well while Weathersby also brought down a team-high tying six rebounds.

Allen (1-9) will next return to action on January 2 when they come home to host Tuskegee University at 7 PM.
