Yellow Jackets Second Half Drought Leads to Loss to Fort Valley State

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. - After closing in on the lead in the first half, Allen University gave up 30 unanswered points falling to Fort Valley State, 56-20, on Saturday at Wheeler HS Stadium.

AU (2-2) scored a season high 20 points in the second quarter and closed in on the lead at the end of the first half when David Wright III found Jamal Jones for a 31-yard touchdown to narrow FVSU's lead to 26-20. It would be the last time the Yellow Jackets reached the end zone for the game. 

Wright passed for 291 yards on 21-of-33 pass attempts with two touchdowns and one interception. Jones hauled in a team high eight receptions for 95 yards to complement his touchdown. 

Jayden Horace added six receptions for a game high 130 yards and a touchdown scoring on a 47-yard touchdown pass from Wright to cap a two-play 66-yard drive late in the second quarter to shrink the lead 19-12. 

Diquan Brown led the Yellow Jackets with nine tackles (7 solo).

FVSU (2-2) totaled 483 yards of total offense. Tyrell Jackson completed 18-of-30 passes to nine different receivers for 342 yards and four touchdowns. Emmanuel Wilson rushed for 83 yards on 11 carries and two scores and a 2-point conversion. Kevin Epps led FVSU's receivers with four receptions for 57 yards with one touchdown with Cordell Pimienta grabbing three passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns.

The Wildcats picked up four sacks to highlight their defensive efforts. Tyler Moore collected 11 tackles to lead all players.

Next week, AU will travel to Wilberforce, Ohio to face Central State during CSU's 2021 Homecoming. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. at McPherson Stadium.
