SAAC Completes Commendable Community Service

 

Under the guidance of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) advisor, Ms. Lisa Reeves, the Allen University SAAC wrapped up a very productive year featuring several commendable community service events.

Looking back on this year, it has been incredible what the Allen University SAAC committee and student-athletes have been able to accomplish. Between juggling school, sports, and other matters during a global pandemic, they still found time to give back to the surrounding communities. "Allen University Student Athletes understand the importance of service to others in and around the community. They have committed numerous hours making a difference in the lives of those they serve," stated Ms. Reeves. 

APRIL 2021

SAAC Members collected donations for Make-A-Wish, which will be disbursed the first week of May via the University.

MARCH 2021

March 28th- SAAC participated in the "Team Up to Clean Up" project held on the Allen University campus and in the surrounding Waverly community.

March 25th and 27th- SAAC assisted the Gable Oaks Housing Community with "Come Meet Your Neighbors Next Door" community cookout, Easter egg hunt & community gathering.

March 17- The Allen University SAAC members engaged in a "Most Creative Competition", along with other campus organizations to get the Students, Alumni, Faculty, Staff, Family & Friends to vote for Allen University in the Home Depot ReTool Your School competition. (Football, Women's Volleyball & Soccer) ~ 3/7, 3/11 & 3/17/2021.

March 15- The Men's Basketball sacrificed Spring Break to assist B106.7, JT Kia, Kiss 103.1 & Harvest Hope with their annual food drive. 

The Student Athletes & the SGA President- Alonzo Julian, in spite of Covid-19 assisted with the "Service Is the Price You Pay for The Space You Occupy"', event and by collectively serving the campus and the surrounding community.

NOVEMBER 2020

November 22- SAAC Members assisted with decorating the entire Campus for the Christmas Holiday. (Men's Basketball, Women's Volleyball & Track & Field and Men's Track & Field)

November 14- SAAC Members participated in the ADOPT-A-Block Clean - (Devine –Holly Street in Columbia, SC). SAAC Members also Teamed Up to Clean-Up on campus, in the Waverly Community. 

OCTOBER 2020

October Members of the Volleyball Team read books virtually to the students at Joseph P. Keels Elementary School during the month of October 2020.

"Allen University is dedicated to teaching the mind to think, the hands to work, and the heart to serve", explained Teddy Keaton, Assistant Athletic Director for Contracts and Compliance. Under the leadership of Dr. McNealey, Allen University President and the SAAC leadership, Student-Athletes participating in SAAC activities demonstrate the mindset by being ever-ready for hands-on community service, while maintaining their GPA requirements and athletic commitments."

The SAAC is a committee is comprised of student-athletes that provide insight into the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations, and policies that affect student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses.
