Coach Robert “Hollywood” Hemingway became the school’s first wrestling coach ever at Allen University. He brings a wealth of experience to the Allen Yellow Jackets. Coach Hemingway comes to Allen University with wealthy years of experience.
Originally from South Philadelphia, PA, Hemingway attended Gardner Webb University, where he was an accomplished wrestler at the college level. He was a state wrestling champion in South Carolina, as well as Virginia All Region Champ. As a college freshman, he became a Wrestling All-American.
Hemingway has over 200 wins as a high school coach, and became high school ‘Coach Of The Year’. Under his coaching he has had several region and state champions. He was previously the president of the USA wrestling of the midlands. Currently he is a certified wrestling official and USA wrestling coach (Bronze Certified). He teaches all styles of wrestling; freestyle, greco, and folk style.
As a first year club team, reached the school’s first wrestling winning record of 18-6. Coach Hemingway coached his team into the first wrestling trophy in a wrestling invitational, ranked in the top 3. This year, Allen University wrestling team will be officially under NAIA regulations. Coach Hemingway was also accepted into the nationally identified wrestling academy through National Wrestling Collegiate Association (NWCA).
I want to help student athletes become the best they could possibly be in their life, this includes being the best in academics and competition. I want my student athletes to be Allen Champions. There is a lot of support from Allen University. With the support from Allen University we have the pieces to build a championship wrestling program
Hemingway lives in Columbia with his wife, LaTonya, and has four children; Robert, Nazhane, Randon, and Raylan.
