Allen University Shines on Day 1 of the 2026 Carolina Classic

Yellow Jackets gain valuable experience and momentum against elite competition on Day 1 in Columbia.

Columbia, S.C. — Day 1 of the 2026 Carolina Classic at the South Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex featured elite competition from programs across the Southeast, and Allen University student-athletes stepped onto the national stage and delivered solid performances against deep, high-level fields.

Allen University delivered statement performances on Day 1 of the 2026 Carolina Classic, highlighted by multiple school records and SIAC-leading marks.

  • Jhyrique Mangum continued his dominance in the throws, breaking his own school record in the weight throw with a mark of 16.32 meters, currently ranking No. 1 in the SIAC.
  • Keturah Walker showcased elite sprint form, breaking her own school record in the 60-meter dash semifinals with a time of 7.71, moving her to No. 2 in the SIAC.
  • Jamarri Norman and Jaheim Speller both advanced to the semifinals of the men's 60-meter hurdles, underscoring Allen's growing presence in the hurdles group.
    • Speller recorded a personal-best 8.45 in the prelims, climbing to No. 3 in the SIAC.
    • Norman continues to hold the No. 1 SIAC ranking in the 60-meter hurdles.

With records falling and conference rankings shifting, Allen University closed Day 1 with momentum and positioned itself for a strong Day 2 finish.

Day 1 Allen University Highlights

Women's 60 Meter Dash

  • T'Moni Porterfield (SO) had a strong showing with an 8.08 time, adding valuable experience and consistency against NCAA Division I and Division II competition.

Women's 400 Meter Dash

  • Allen athletes gained critical exposure in one of the deepest events of the meet, competing against nationally ranked sprinters and relays—experience that will pay dividends as the indoor season progresses.

Day 1 served as an important measuring stick for Allen University, with student-athletes competing fearlessly, gaining championship-level experience, and setting the tone for continued growth heading into Day 2.
